its been too long....

wow.... over a month without a post... where has the time gone to...

I have done a lot of work on the platformer game. ( coding mostly and some modelling work on the environment.
We have decided to create 1 level in a factory setting. so we are hard at work to finish this demo level soon :)

I also working on new Portfolio plates.

bot update time

So after a lot of non 3D modelling stuff I have been working on lately, I finally got the time to update you all on the character model from project ASPEN.

Meet: Digital Augmented Robot With Integrated Nucleaotech or as we shall call it D.A.R.W.I.N.
still got a lot of stuff to do on it. but slowly it is getting there.
Hopefully the next update will not take as long. 


next to this model i have been working on a Augmented Reality test in Unity3D. I haven't got it up and running just yet but i'm getting there :)

Aspen Hero

Like i said in my last post i would post an image of the Aspen Main hero character this time.
So here it is:


The hero is still early wip but the face is mostly done for the rough stage... I still have to figure out how i am going to create all the face expressions ( those are hard for a robot :P ) i'll have to watch some Wall-E from Disney and Robots from Sony Pictures ( i believe)  for those as reference.

I'll update again as progress is made

Forgot to post this one yesterday

I have been working on a character in my spare time and i would have uploaded a render yesterday but i forgot.

The character is not done yet. the hands still need some work as does the face ( still a bit "creepy") but i'm getting there :)
the lighting i used for this image is very basic and she hasn't been rigged yet.

we are back to work

after all the problems last couple of weeks in the family i'm back work creating new materials.

I haven't been sitting on my hands last week but i didn't found the time to update... so here we go!

First of all: Maya the girl character i have been working on:

almost done : )




still need to fix some areas here and there but she is almost done.

I have been working on some tech work for Project ASPEN:




A gameplay effect with an animated "puking"pipe  and some toxic corrosive sludge. if the player hits the sludge the player character will die ( evil laughter ) 

i have been working on some other stuff too:

a  Thunderbird 2 model ( still wip):



and a new character model that i'm not going to show just yet. 


The model is in texturing fase at the moment, so be patient, this one is coming along really nice i must say.

I update more in the coming days : )

No posts this last week

Due to a family situation no post last week...

My uncle died suddenly last week at the age of 57. we never saw it coming, and we never had the chance to say goodbye.

He will be missed.

Project ASPEN

here we are after a couple of days of hard work, little sleep, and a few headaches later

i present the first ingame screen shot of ASPEN ( worktitle for now)

the character is a Unity3D asset for now because the real character is still under wraps crates are unity assets too just because i had to test some physics.

C# code completely by me :)

another day another hair style

FINALLY!
I have finally build a hair style a little to my liking ,fixed some of the textures and tested a pose.

Meet Maya ( yup that's her name :D )

still WIP but you get to see where i am going with this one
( still need to fix the paints..... next thing on my list) also this is a very simple render with just a directional light.. final version will get a much more complex light setup.

Some days are just Off days..other days are Zone days

once in a blue moon you get to have a off day... i got mine yesterday so no real progress.
However today or rather last night i got the "brilliant idea" to completely redo the rig for the female character i was working on. And redo the hair mesh ( again) at the same time.
I updated the Rig with a face rig system so no more slaving away on Blend Shapes. only problem is the weight painting of the joints.... it is time consuming to say the least.... ( = =") but after working on it for a couple of hours this is the result so far. it still needs work but it is getting there.


On the left the result of a couple of hours work.
On the right the rig and cluster areas.

Now quickly back to work. I'm in my workflow today and i do not want to break it :)

kowabunga!

Another day another post :)
I'm on a roll...

I have been working on some stuff for Project Aspen today just because I had some idea i just had to create... you know like an itch you have to scratch.

I have been working on a MockUp for a sewer level.

here is the screenshot.

it is still a very early development mockup just to see if the idea I had would translate to 3D.
The water effects are a combination of a Maya Shader and some animation but it serves it purpose :)

For now it seems to work so I will put some more time into it to get the MockUp to a little more polished version in the coming days

And yes if you paid attention to the image you will see what type of game Project Aspen is going to be :)

Sleep is overrated...or is it?

today i have worked on Project Aspen which I am working on together with my partner in crime.  We have been hard at work on a lot stuff and today i want to show some test materials I have created for the project.

This is just a very small part of what i have done but i do not want to spoil too much just yet :)

NOW GET BACK TO WORK!

Sometimes life can be a real pain in the backside...
Especially when you want to work but somehow life just throws a monkey wrench into your plans = ="

but those problems are now behind me so BACK TO WORK!

today i have tweaked some parts or assets of the girl model. A friend of mine pointed out she was a "little" top heavy.

So i gave the model a fresh look and found he was right. so i fixed that

I also worked on the texture of the Jacket. At first i wanted to create the Diffuse ( color) texture and create a   normal map from that one. but during this process i found out this didn't give the right look i was looking for so i scrapped the texture and put the mesh into zBrush.

I have finished the first pass for now. still have to rework the shader to get rid of the "garbage bag" effect

but for now i'm happy :)

Be cool...

Right... so some joker at my house wanted to see Grease for the Nth time.... no problem in my book.. however i do not want to hear the music at max volume.... especially when they want to sing along with a voice like they are skinning a cat alive.... ( horrible... voice of... or idols would be proud...).

however the music inspired me to create this guy....

yup another NEW model... I know, I know, i'm supposed to finish up all the other ones but when you got the vibe to create you just have to do it :)

hopefully i'm going to have a much more productive day tomorrow...

Something on the side

While working on all these projects sometimes you just have to create something on the side to keep your work interesting and fresh

So when a friend challenged me to create something he would like i came up with this:

Saber Lily from Fate Stay Night Anime in Chibi form :P

a quick and dirty model i created in a couple of hours... i still have to fix the face... eyes looks wrong but drawing anime eyes is not my thing :P 

now back to all the other models i still need to finish like that gun, demon and girl... ( and a lot of other models that are still in the pipeline) most modelers will know what i'm talking about

Alright.. one more.. just because i couldn't resist :P

I couldn't resist.... a quick mockup of the gun with the character.
The character is not fully weight painted yet so some areas deform "not so well" yet.


And the hair is placeholder... ( i cant stand models without hair if it is not in the design).

Bang Bang

A new model... or at least file. This time i'm working on a gun. This gun will be used with the female character i have been working on for the last couple of days



I created this gun in about 2 hours. It is still work in progress but i like where it is going.

At first i was going to recreate a desert eagle of revolver but during building i let those go and decided to create some fancy looking gun

now i'm off to celebrate my weekend off

Started texturing today.. and i still haven't decided what the final hair model will be.... ( problem :S)

unwrapping the model is going well and every part that is unwrapped is added to the animation rig right away.

When you got the inspiration you work:)

So here we are with another update.
So after testing Maya 2013 a little and creating that basic character thingy, I got some inspiration to finish the model  :)
so here it is as of right now; I did "some" work on the model and created an outfit. fun fact: the base model is still underneath the outfit so when i want to i can change the outfits a lot easier.

Next up for this model: Unwrapping, Zbrush passover, Texturing and Rigging.

updating...

Updating my version of Maya today.
Finally I switched from Maya 2012 to 2013.
Now to get the system back up and running.

so to test the update and to see if there are any differences between the two versions I created this model as a test. It still need heaps of work to get it to a more representable and game-usable state but for a couple of hours work this isn't bad i must say.

( still LOOOOONNGG way to go...)

for now enjoy the nice winter weather ( SNOW!!!!)   

I'm gonna make me a snow angel  ^_^

slowly getting there...

another update :O wow having a blog and keeping track can be addictive.

Today I working on the demon i found the head to be i don't know... too "nice" or friendly?
So i changes some aspects of the face to give him a more "demonic look

also worked on the back some more extending the armor with a few more plates and tried to have some more texture on the model.

slowly but surely i'm getting where i want to go with the model. maybe i could start to create a texture in a couple of days

Hmmmm....

Sometimes it's to take a step back from your work and just look at it with fresh eyes...

so after some more zbrush work i decided to put the model back into Maya and see how things are coming along with the tech parts of the model.

I've decided to remove some of the details from the model because the base was not finished to my taste. ( thank God for Layers in zBrush)


Looking at the model right now a couple of parts stand out:
- the mechanical claw is too clunky
- the muscles are not quite right in the arm
- back armor could be longer ( Thanks Twan for the feedback)
- more detail in the zbrush model is needed  (working on it)

for now i'm moderatly happy with my work but i still need to fix these problems before i finish up the model in the next couple of days

Stop.... zBrush TIME!

So another update. I have been slaving away on the model for some time now to get some errors out of the model and to unwrap it. Now that i have finished that work i've begun to sculpt the details in zBrush!

Its been some time i have worked in zBrush but I get my flow back pretty fast :)


here are the first tryouts of the sculpt. Most of the details I create in Layers to try some stuff i'm not really sure about. and I can re-tweak the basic sculpt if an error arises later on in the process.

Another day, another update

so after a very nice day of doing absolutely nothing ( heck who wants to work on their birthday right :P) I'm back hard at work on a lot of different things like losing my hangover, cleaning the place and doing some work in the demon model again. This time i've updated the legs and tweaked some minor things on the body. I've also started to create the teeth for this.



I've also picked up a pencil again and started to draw gestures again for practice purposes. Man i'm rusty in that departmend again... so back to square one. Time to get a Level Up on that one. too bad the Konami cheat code won't work on this D:  ( for those who do not know the Konami code look it up! and yes i know people who have never heard of it "Oo") This will come in handy when i'm starting a secondary character i have in my mind for some time now. So expect non 3D art here too in the future.

for now i'm back to my workstation and coffee. ( more coffee... I need more coffee )

So Happy New Year everyone!
my first post of the year 2013 so lets start of right!
Here a couple of wip snapshots of a demon character i'm working on.
the idea is the model will be used in high end renders and full rendered cutscenes so i'm not really paying any attention to polycounts.
I may end up rebuilding a game ready model of this one but for now i'm just going with the flow
